Swinging Jacob

I have told some of you about swinging Jacob to see if it helps him calm down and be less rowdy/distractable/excitable. I think it has worked, but want to do a week straight to see. I'll swing him in our living room swing for about 5 minutes before we do an activity that will require some calmness, sometimes a couple of times a day.

Here is a good link that describes the vestibular system (for my family who kept asking!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vestibular_system

And another link that has a great explanation of a "sensory diet," what we'll likely leave the OT with when all is said and done. http://www.sensorysmarts.com/diet.html

I'll let you know how it goes!

Why do I get the feeling that in 13 years we will see pictures of Jacob jumping out of an airplane, hurling himself down from 7000 feet and spinning incessantly...all to bring back the calming memories of mommy swinging him around every day.

Kind of sweet when you think about it...

OK...So having read the "diet" - notice I say read, not digested :^)- I am more than a little amazed at that much information about a field I didn't even know existed, much less would apply to Jacob! That you even knew to look for help in the situation only shows that God gave him the perfect mother to help him...not that I ever doubted it for an instant!
